At LBC, the Biblical Studies major is an interdisciplinary program designed to help you grow in your knowledge of God’s Word while preparing for a wide range of ministry opportunities. You’ll take in-depth Bible and theology courses taught by experienced professors, learn to interpret Scripture faithfully, develop a gospel-centered worldview, and build practical ministry skills through internships and Christian service experiences.
You can earn your degree in either a four-year bachelor’s degree track or a two-year associate degree track. The bachelor’s program requires a total of 120 credits for both on-campus and online options.
At LBC, Biblical Studies focuses on the study of the biblical text itself: learning to read, interpret, and apply the Old and New Testaments using proper hermeneutical methods. It’s more exegetical, meaning you’re digging into what the biblical authors meant in their original context and how that applies today. Theology, by contrast, tends to be more systematic: organizing and synthesizing the Bible’s teachings into doctrinal categories like the nature of God, salvation, the church, and the end times. In practice, students at LBC study both, but a Biblical Studies major emphasizes the interpretive, text-centered side (learning the languages, the historical context, and the literary forms of Scripture), while theology courses provide the framework for how all those biblical teachings fit together doctrinally.
