Psychology (BS) Overview

While the Psychology BS degree is not called a “Christian psychology degree,” the program is designed to equip students to integrate their faith and psychology to cultivate Christian character and apply a biblical worldview in service to church and society.

Students build a strong foundation in psychological theory, research methods and ethical practice while learning to respond to emotional, psychological and interpersonal concerns with empathy and insight.

A required practicum provides hands-on experience that connects classroom learning to real-world settings and strengthens professional readiness.

Graduates are prepared for entry-level roles in mental health and human services or for graduate study in psychology and related fields, equipped to make a meaningful Kingdom impact in diverse vocational settings.

Thoughts From the Program Coordinator

“Students in the psychology programs at Lancaster Bible College have the unique and beneficial opportunity to add a master’s degree onto their bachelor’s degree with just one more year of courses—regardless of if they are taking courses in person or online. Especially in a field where a master’s degree is often required to practice counseling or excel in other psychology-related fields, the 4+1 programs equip our students to make a difference in their communities right away.”

FAQs About the Psychology Degree

Absolutely. Lancaster Bible College’s Psychology BS program is built specifically for students who want to pursue psychology without leaving their faith at the door. Every course is taught through a biblical lens, helping you develop professional competency while deepening your Christian worldview. You’ll learn to integrate faith into your practice, nurture Christian virtue, and serve both the Church and broader society, so your education strengthens both your career and your calling.

It depends on the role you’re pursuing. A bachelor’s degree in psychology can open doors to entry-level positions such as case manager, behavioral health technician, psychiatric aide, or social services worker. However, many counseling and clinical roles require a master’s degree. LBC’s unique 4+1 pathway lets you earn both your bachelor’s and a master’s degree (in areas like Clinical Mental Health Counseling or Professional School Counseling), in just five years, giving you the credentials most employers and licensure boards require.

A bachelor’s degree in psychology at LBC typically takes four years, available either on campus (16-week courses) or fully online (accelerated 8-week courses). If you want to go further, LBC’s 4+1 program lets you add a master’s degree in just one additional year, so you can be fully credentialed in five years total.

A Christian psychologist applies evidence-based psychological knowledge and methods while bringing a biblical worldview to how they understand and care for people. In practice, that might look like working as a counselor, case manager, school counselor, or behavioral health specialist, in settings ranging from private practices and church counseling centers to homeless ministries and social service organizations.

What sets a Christian psychologist apart is the integration of professional ethics, clinical skill, and faith-driven compassion in caring for the whole person.
